Capital Equipment
The Northumberland Hills Hospital has developed a list of high priority equipment needs to ensure that the hospital remains up-to-date with the latest technology. Improved technology helps the medical staff to see, diagnose and treat illness, disease and pain.
The Gala Committee intends to direct the funds raised during the 2011 Gala "Come Together" toward the purchase of the high priority equipment needs of the Surgical Services Area of the Northumberland Hills Hospital.
| Laparoscopic Tower (one required at $65,535) | Total: $ 65,535 |
| The tower is the equipment which scopes are attached to in order for the surgeon to see inside the abdomen when he is performing "minimally invasive" surgery (no large incisions). The tower is like a TV screen and the scope will transmit the images to the tower and the surgeon can then see what he is working on. | |
| Arthroscope (one required at $5,000) | Total: $ 5,000 |
| An Arthroscope is a scope that is used for diagnosing and treating knee injuries. A very small incision is made in the knee and the scope is inserted. The surgeon can insert additional instruments and actually repair some minor injuries with this procedure. The recovery time is very quick and is not as painful as an open procedure. | |
| Gastroscope (two required at $28,000) | Total: $ 56,000 |
| This scope is used to diagnose and or treat any abnormalities or diseases of the upper gastrointestinal tract (oesophagus). This scope is flexible and has a light, lens and camera similar to the colonoscope. It is attached to the tower and allows the surgeon the ability to see inside the oesophagus and can take pictures for future reference. | |
| Infus Syringe Pump (two required at $15,000) | Total: $ 30,000 |
| This equipment allows the anaesthetist to deliver medications over a period of time and in a precise manner. The medication is drawn up into a syringe and is attached to tubing and is inserted into the intravenous line in the patients hand/arm. The medication can be delivered over a few minutes or over hours depending on the type of medication it is. | |
